The 2017 Leeds Hidden Talents Employment Fair is set to take place on Monday 10th July. The event is for autistic jobseekers in the Leeds area looking at what employment opportunities are out there. It is also for employers who want to know about the benefits of hiring autistic employees.
This year’s event follows on from the first ever Hidden Talents fair, which was held last year. That event attracted over 250 visitors and had nearly 20 stalls. This year’s will follow a similar format, but will have a couple of new features.
For autistic jobseekers, a couple of workshops will take place during the day. The first one is on building CVs and will be held by the National Careers Service (NCS). The second workshop is a reasonable adjustments advice workshop and will be facilitated by Aspiedent.
Workshop one is from 2:30pm to 3:15pm. Workshop two is from 3:45pm to 4:30pm. To book a place on either workshop, please visit the below links on Eventbrite:
Please note that there are 20 places available for each one. To secure a place, you must book a spot as soon as you can.
Employers and jobseekers
As with last year, the event will be split into two sections – one for employers and the other for jobseekers. For the employers’ section, here’s what we have confirmed so far:
- A talk by the Access To Work strategy lead
- A talk by Dr Elizabeth Guest from Aspiedent on autism awareness
- A talk from Weightman’s Solicitors on what they have done for autistic employees
The employers’ section will run from 1pm to 2pm, with set-up for stalls starting at Noon. A full schedule of speakers for this part of the event will be released in due course.
As for the jobseekers’ part of the event, it runs from 2pm to 5pm. Along with the two workshops, there will be several stalls manned by employers based in Leeds, as well as additional employment services. Confirmed stalls include KPMG and Carillion.
